God Is Reaching For You

This morning, I read (and Tweeted) Isaiah 59:1, "Indeed, the Lord's hand is not too short to save, and His ear is not too deaf to hear."  Wow!  What a great verse.  As I read that and contemplated, my first thought is, "God sure has long arms."  How true!  I kind of got this picture: me hanging on a tree that is growing out of the side of a cliff.  The cliff is hundreds of feet tall, is sheer rock, and the tree is pretty flimsy.  I am yelling for help, but there is no one around.  I am not sure how long I can hold on to the little tree.  Then, God looks over the cliff.  I am pretty far down; surely there is no way He can reach me.  And I am not really sure how He heard me.  But He reaches down His hand, and His arm is long enough to get to me.  He grabs me and pulls me up.  He sets my feet on solid ground, and I look at Him.  I am exhausted and I can barely speak, but I manage to ask this question: "How did You find me?"  His answer is Isaiah 59:1 - "My hand isn't too short to reach you no matter how far away you are, and I can hear your cry even when you are not close to me."

That is salvation.

Salvation is beautiful.  Salvation is free.  But we have to be willing to let go of our flimsy little tree and grab on to God.  It's that easy.  We call it faith.  Why do we keep putting our faith in our flimsy little tree called "Self" when we can grasp onto the mighty hand of God?  God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Today, I am so grateful that God has long arms and great hearing, that He would hear and rescue someone like me!
